During my principal residency I conducted a survey to analyze the dispositions of staff in the building. The results from this survey helped the admin to identify things that were going well and areas of improvement. As a SIT member, I analyzed the results in order to set short term goals for the year, and think of effective systems for next year.

During my principal residency I helped assist and make adjustments to scheduling to maximize student achievement. The admin team readjusted the schedule for specialist when data didn't support that having them pull students individually was not effective.

During my Principal residency experience I had the opportunity to help organize, support, and participate in various activities that demonstrated school culture and identity. Fifty percent of staff are new to the building, as a result these events allowed staff and administration to collaborate, connect and utilize strengths and ideas. This became the foundation of the "family buy in" feeling we desired to create at the school.

The principal acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school.

During my principal residency I had the opportunity to help organize the Back to School Bash/Orientation. I also helped managed "Do it for the Hood" which is program geared to help motivate students and inspire school and personal pride. Also during my residency I helped managed and organized Pep Rally's. During these experiences I utilized community partners, local radio station, and colleges.

During my principal residency I took the time to write every staff member in the building a "Thank You" card to show my appreciation for all of their hard work. Teachers in various ways communicated to me their feelings and appreciation for recognizing their hard work.

During my principal residency I worked with staff and committees to take on leadership opportunities and roles. The staff worked and executed the vision of the school. One of our goals were to creatively find ways to encourage and increase parent participation.
Element 3 d. Efficacy and Empowerment:

During my principal residency I often created survey to serve as pulse checks. The administration team would utilize the data from these surveys to adjust expectations, roles, jobs and responsibilities. This empowered teachers because as we reviewed data we saw hear their voices and thoughts. For example a leading trend was teachers felt as if there wasn't enough feedback given and would like to more opportunities for feedback. As a result admin increase the amount of weekly walk through, and provided more feedback.
During my principal residency I looked for ways to empower and encourage teachers. After having a conversation in the hallway with a teacher about an empowering book I shared this resource with a beginning teacher. This book empower the teacher because it provided her with practical strategies that were overly complicated to implement. Teacher mentioned how the ideas were simple yet effective.
