The graduation percentage rate has steadily increased over the last 10 years. Finally the rates remain above 80%. The expected goal for the current school year 90%. These achievements can be attributed to the efforts of the counseling and administrative staff who monitors attendance and reaches out to students and families via, newsletters, phone calls, house visit, social media and etc to ensure that students are completing their courses.

School Demographics

Southern over the past four years has greatly increased in student enrollment. During the 2013-2014 school year the total student enrollment was 914 students. Since that year there has been a 435 increase ins student enrollment over the last 4 years. The current student total is 1,349 students. African Americans make up 68% of the school's population. The second leading ethnic group of students are Hispanics which makes up 26% of the total population. Finally Caucasian, multi-racial, and other make up 5% of the population. Looking into the gender ratio of the school 56% of the school is male and 44% percent are females. Currently 64% of its students families are from low socioeconomic homes.

Achievement Indicators
The Achievement Indicators are the factors that determines the grade level of the school. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability has performed as a D school the last 3 years. Across the board indicators have fluctuated. English II has decreased over the last 3 years. There has been improvement and gains with the ACT work keys. Math I however has seen a gradual and consistent decline in performance. Math I being one of the target areas of growth the school is looking to push. Collaborative planning and Curriculum integration is being used between Sciences and Math in efforts to improve proficiency
Biology I has main gains in increasing Level 3 students and maintaining level 4. Biology follows the trend with other EOCs subjects in the increase in level 1 students. Most growth seems to come from Biology than any other EOC tested course. Growth was indicated by the usage of vocabulary. The current school goal for Biology is 40%.

According to the Math I performance data, Level 1 proficient students have increase over the last 4 years. Level 3 and 4 students have decreased, with no students scoring at a level 5. 2016-2017 SAS prediction for school proficiency was 8% however 18% were actually proficient. Math teachers are moving kids above SAS predictions but not meeting growth standards. The current goal for Math I 35%

English II is a required EOC course as well as an indicator for school performance. Each year the number students performing at level 1 has increased. Teacher performance and increase in student population play as a factor in the data. Overall from 2015-2016 there was a decline in all Level performances but with an increase in Level 1. Current school goal is 50%
